An old fishing village that in recent years has managed to keep up with the times. Portmahomack is quaint and secluded, with an undoubtedly romantic feel about it. Nothing moves too quickly here and the summer days are long and peaceful. Enjoy walks across the outstretched beach or a scenic trip up to the Tarbat Ness Lighthouse.
Portmahomack is quickly becoming a favourite destination for travellers on the NC500 route, as it exemplifies the beauty of the East Coast, and the welcoming communities who live there.

The Tarbat Ness Lighthouse
This picturesque lighthouse is a must-see for anyone visiting Portmahomack or embarking on the NC500. It boasts breathtaking views over the Moray Firth and is a great spot to catch the Northern Lights, if you get your timing right!
The Castle Hotel
A truly local village pub that welcomes people from all walks of life (and their dogs!). Take a seat by the cosy fireplace and enjoy a locally brewed beer, or find a place outside on those warmer summer nights and enjoy an unforgettable sunset.
The Tarbat Discovery Centre
For those driven by history and culture you must take a trip to the Tarbat Discovery Centre, an insightful way to learn more about the Picts who once occupied this peninsula.
Portmahomack Golf Club
Tucked away at the back of the village, this well kept 9 hole links-style golf course plays to all standard of golfer. After your round, visit the bar for a well-earned pint or enjoy some lunch at the Tee Up Café.
The Carnegie Hall Café
A truly charming atmosphere with friendly and welcoming service. It is the perfect pitstop for lunch or even just a coffee, with freshly made cakes, warm toasted paninis and traditional soups being among the many popular offerings.

Tain is Scotland's oldest Royal Burgh and walking down the main street can feel like you're stepping back in time. The local museum is a great place to visit to learn more about the town's rich history.
Tain attracts visitors from all over the world as it's home to the renowned Glenmorangie whisky distillery and golf course designed by Old Tom Morris. It's a great place to stop for lunch as you explore the surrounds.

Tain Golf Club
This classic links course is a real hidden gem in the Highlands. Designed by Old Tom Morris, the founding father of golf and designer of the world-famous Royal Dornoch Golf Club, you will not be disappointed after a round here.
Tain Through Time
A visitor's center in the heart of Tain featuring a Pilgrimage gallery, the Tain and District museum, and a small museum shop. The museum is home to an impressive and varied collection of archives of both local and national significance.
Glenmorangie Distillery
This distillery is must-see for any whisky lover. The tours are frequent and informative, and the gift shop is a great place to collet a souvenir. Be sure to try a dram before you leave, the knowledgeable staff are always happy to help with your selection!
Glasstrom
See the phenomenal work of some of Scotland's most talented glassblowers. The knowledgeable and friendly staff will happily guide you through the pieces in the gallery as you learn the magic of their unique craft. You can even purchase a small piece of art for yourself.

Dornoch is a charming village bustling with places to explore. From shopping and dining on the high street, to rummaging through antique stores, and meandering down the seemingly never-ending beach, Dornoch really does have something for everyone.
It's worth paying a visit to the History Links Museum to learn about the town's tumultuous past!

Dornoch Cathedral

This village is a great place to get yourself a truly authentic Scottish gift. Unique shops are plentiful and offer everything from local produce to country interiors, art, fabrics, and apparel.
